The Pink Palace Family of Museums has a special exhibit planned for the upcoming Bicentennial of the City! The exhibit, titled "Making Memphis: 200 Years of Community," brings together stories of the past and present and their influence on the future to illustrate the interconnected web of Memphis history.
With its use of technology, interactive components, art, and design, this exhibit is a multimedia, multisensory experience, encouraging visitors to experience Memphis' history in new ways. The five major exhibit threads are Heritage and Identity, Commerce and Entrepreneurialism, Migration and Settlement, Art and Entertainment, and Geography and the Environment.
Each theme is represented by one of five freestanding color-coded structures (pods) that represent its theme as one thread of history. A color-coated cable (corresponding with the pod’s color) will run to the other pods, physically and symbolically connecting them. The exhibit is truly a community event as it will feature community-curated display items chosen by visitors.
Visitors can vote for their favorite artifact remotely or at an iPad in the exhibit. Selections will rotate monthly. Objects with the most votes go on display the following month. The public can vote for their favorite display item at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/memat200. We hope that you stop by!
